Halloween in Almuñécar
Halloween in Almuñécar: coexistence between two traditions
Halloween arrives at Hotel Victoria Playa, a mythical party for the whole team and that becomes really fun thanks to Bethlehem, the master of ceremonies, whose imagination is proof of ghosts and legends. She and her team do their best to make our guests spend a night to die of fun. However, this festival coexists with the customs of Almuñécar, do you want to know how the almuñéqueros celebrate All Saints' Day?
Local party in Almuñécar: how we celebrate Halloween or the Day of Saints
As we said in the title, the sexitano people celebrate this holiday with the depth and solemnity of our tradition, while living with the festive atmosphere of the Anglo-Saxon celebration. Thus, while we attend costume parties and fantasize about the night of the walking dead, we also take the opportunity to visit our loved ones in the cemetery.
If you are from Spain, you know what I am talking about, but if you are not, you will find some, or many, differences between our way of feeling this day and that of other cultures.
From Halloween to Everyone's Day in Almuñécar
To begin with, the name changes: we call it All Saints' Day. On this day, almuñequeros take the opportunity to honor our deceased loved ones. To do this, we go to the cemetery and decorate their tombstones with the most beautiful flower centers and lights and, some people, add the objects that defined the lives of those who left.
On the night of the 31st, families gather around the tombstone, pray for the soul of their loved one and speak silently with them. It is an intimate moment in which each of us feels connected in a special way with those we love. The feeling of intimacy is very touching. But this connection with those who are no longer joins the joy contained in meeting with the rest of the family and friends.
It is a moment created to share and to review life together without excitement but with prudence and depth. Thanks to All Saints Day, you see friends who had not seen for months or a year, so take the opportunity to remember and catch up, along with those who are no longer there. In this way, you include in the encounter the souls of the deceased, always present in the flowers and in the candlelight. Thus, a situation that could lead to the typical nostalgia of Christmas, consists more in the company and the hug and our two typical kisses.
At the same time, the youngest enjoy Halloween parties, not forgetting the local traditions, to which they are incorporated over the years. It is, therefore, a unique example of coexistence of cultures, typical of an Almuñécar accustomed to receiving people from all over the world throughout the year, something, also, recurrent in the Andalusian villages and culture. Therefore, at Hotel Victoria Playa we are delighted to work so that you have a night of terror and laughter, along with your friends and family, have you ever wondered why what scares us most attracts us to laughter?
